The Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum in Alexandria, MN has a new name and new look this summer. The museum, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, is now known as the Legacy of the Lakes Museum.
Bruce Olson, executive director, said, “We’re giving the old lake place a remodel … new name, new logo, new exhibits.” He added, “The name ‘Legacy of the Lakes’ is a much better reflection of the mission and scope of the museum. Beautiful boats will always be at the heart of this museum. But our collection and exhibits encompass all aspects of what people treasure about going to the lake – fishing, water skiing, resort life, campfires, family time, relaxation – whether that lake is in Minnesota or anywhere else in the world. Legacy of the Lakes celebrates these traditions and seeks to preserve them for future generations.”
The museum’s new name and new look are the result of a strategic planning process that began with an interpretive plan, which has helped the museum create a more engaging experience for visitors, followed by a branding initiative designed to better communicate the museum’s mission. “Visiting our museum is fun,” Olson said, and visitors are amazed at the quality of our exhibits. The museum celebrates life at the lake, and the new brand helps us tell that story in a much more powerful way.”
